FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

NEW BOOK REVEALS THE LITTLE-KNOWN STORY OF HOW GERMAN TEENAGERS SAVE THEMSELVES AND THEIR FAMILIES FROM STARVING FOLLOWING WWII

Modesto, California-January 17, 2010 - Gerald R. Molen, Producer of Schindler's List, Describes Dora Lee Thompson’s New Novel, Pocket of Guilt:
"[This is a story of] youth in crises during a time of war and the subsequent journey they take to find themselves, their faith, and their destiny."

The author of Pocket of Guilt, a great grandmother of five, began a forty-year journey of researching, writing and gleaning experiences from three Germans who lived in Mannheim, Germany during and following WWII, to help her create this book that asks the question, "Would you sacrifice your morals in order to survive?"

Thompson says she felt compelled to write this story before the persons involved (most in their seventies or eighties now) die and take their stories with them. She attributes her ability to “stay the course” all those years to traits handed down from her ancestors. She comes from a long line of steadfast, persevering innovators who, out of necessity, learned to “make do,” beginning with a great grandmother who was the daughter of an Indian chief.

Carlyle Parker, author of Going to Salt Lake City to do Family History Research, says of Pocket of Guilt: "Set in WWII Germany, this gripping novel reveals the stealthy, but unethical, strategy by which two teenagers of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, along with their Jewish and German friends and families, survive privation and Nazi terror. The story continues fascinating as they adjust to American occupation and sustain their friendships through maturity and into adulthood and finally resolve their long-held secret guilt.”
